Document 1: The Fourteen Points
I. Open covenants of peace, openly arrived at ...

II. Absolute freedom of navigation upon the seas, outside territorial waters, alike in peace and in war ...

III. The removal, so far as possible, of all economic barriers and the establishment of an equality of trade conditions among all the nations consenting to the peace and associating themselves for its maintenance.

IV. Adequate guarantees given and taken that national armaments will be reduced to the lowest point consistent with domestic safety.

V. A free, open-minded, and absolutely impartial adjustment of all colonial claims, based upon a strict observance of the principle that in determining all such questions of sovereignty the interests of the populations concerned must have equal weight with the equitable claims of the government whose title is to be determined.

VI. The evacuation of all Russian territory and such a settlement of all questions affecting Russia as will secure the best and freest cooperation of the other nations of the world in obtaining for her an unhampered and unembarrassed opportunity for the independent determination of her own political development and national policy ...

VII. Belgium, the whole world will agree, must be evacuated and restored, without any attempt to limit the sovereignty which she enjoys in common with all other free nations. ...

VIII. All French territory should be freed and the invaded portions restored, and the wrong done to France by Prussia in 1871 in the matter of Alsace-Lorraine, which has unsettled the peace of the world for nearly fifty years, should be righted, in order that peace may once more be made secure in the interest of all.

IX. A readjustment of the frontiers of Italy should be effected along clearly recognizable lines of nationality.

X. The peoples of Austria-Hungary, whose place among the nations we wish to see safeguarded and assured, should be accorded the freest opportunity to autonomous development.

XI. Rumania, Serbia, and Montenegro should be evacuated; occupied territories restored ...

XII. The Turkish portion of the present Ottoman Empire should be assured a secure sovereignty ...

XIII. An independent Polish state should be erected which should include the territories inhabited by indisputably Polish populations ...

XIV. A general association of nations must be formed under specific covenants for the purpose of affording mutual guarantees of political independence and territorial integrity to great and small states alike.

  1. I believe the 14th point is the most important for lasting peace after all it mentions to include any and all nations which could lead to a more civilized approach on solving foreign affairs.
Does anyone have a different opinion on this matter?

  2. The most important point of Wilson's 14-Point would be the 14th, as in creating an association of nations to step in and intervene for small and big nations would allow for no nation to bully one another or take advantage off.

    1. This can cause conflict since not all nations are a part of this for instance Germany and Russia

    2. The League of Nations could add members once it saw that its statues would not be hostile, such as China's territorial hostility.

  3. the Fourteenth Point is the most important in that it created a group of mediators in foriegn affairs. it will make sure that countries who signed the treaty follow it to prevent future issues

  4. Point number 5 has been the most significant for world peace. It has limited states getting colonial power and letting people decide who to be controlled by instead of claiming without letting people say if they want. This can help keep world peace because this will not anger the people.

  5. Point 3 is the most important to maintaining peace because it will show equality and trust, for the barriers seclude, exclude, and make it seem like they have something to hide. The removal of all these economic barriers will improve the relations with others and keep the peace.

  6. Point 2 in my opinion is the most important for lasting peace. Freedom of the seas in war or at peace is crucial to the lasting peace of the world. The U.S. joined the war due to attacks from German U-boats. If there would have been freedom of the seas during the war the United States could have prevented entering the war and many lives' from different parts of the world could have been saved.

    1. I agree with your statement after all one of a nation's main focus should be the economy. However, competition always exists so not many would give up to make themselves the king in sea trade. As stated before one of a country's main focus is the economy. Therefore my point still stands that pint 14 is much more important.

  7. Point 2 because no country would be feel attacked by sailing and navigation would be free/peaceful which would be smooth. No country should be denied to navigate freely.

    2. What would define the truth would be the actions of the countries, such that it'd be regulated by nations for no one to attack another countries' ships.

    3. Juan R, do you think the most important would be point 2 or 3, that allows free and equal trade?

  8. Point 2 because the seas should be free so either nation could be able to trade and keep the peace among others. No other nation should be affected if 2 nations are already fighting each other. This shouldn't affect any of the people.

  9. The most important point of the 14-point would be the 14th because it would create unity between the small and big nations. This would mean that if any nation was in trouble, others could step in and help.

    1. This is why the League of Nations was created so that we could join forces and help each other out in times of need.

  10. Point two because it allows all countries to trade with one another in war or peace. No county would be affected because of two other countries fighting with one another. People won't be affected nor a country would be put into it.

  11. Point 8 is the most effective way to keep peace with the French as they have been fighting and losing land for nearly fifty years. It is also relevant to note that they've lost thousands of lives due to invasions. Their freedom will also result in knowing that an agreement has been met and peace is settled.

  12. Point IV, because "armaments will be reduced" guarantees the best for all nations

  13. The most important idea from the Fourteen Points , is the creation of League of Nations. Its purpose was to prevent future conflicts within nations, and to unite the countries.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree, the Leauge of Nations only wanted to do good to nations by uniting them.

    2. But not all countries would be part of the League of Nations? For example, Germany and Russia.

  14. I believe that the fourteenth point is the most significant in lasting peace. A system like the one suggested in the fourteenth point is necessary to create a way to avoid foreign conflicts as well as to create a way for divided nations to come together in the lookout for peace. In what way will other points make it certainly sure that no conflicts will arise between us?

  15. The Fourth Point is the most important point because if all countries produce less weaponry, no army will be strong enough to start a war.

    ReplyDelete

    1. What if the nations are secretly producing weapons?

      Delete
    2. I agree but at the same time not all countries will be able to be part of the league nations which is why i believe this might not be the best point.

  16. In my point of view, the 14th point was the most important because the formation of The League of Nation, a worldwide organization conformed by countries as: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, the British Empire, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, El Salvador, France, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Irish Free State, Ethiopia, Italy, Liberia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Persia/Iran, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Siam, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Union of South Africa, Uruguay, Yugoslavia, Venezuela, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, Luxembourg, Albania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Turkey, Iraq, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Afghanistan, British Raj, Syria and Ecuador. The main mission for this organization was to keep the World's peace but it failed in 1938.

  18. I believe the 14th point is the most important one since it involves the integration of the nations to step forward and defend each other from other bullying nations. In other words, discuss foreign matters so war will not occur. Does anyone agree with me?

    Replies
    1. The Fourteen Points are about wanting to have peace with all countries, so how would there be any bullying nations?

      Delete
  19. Point One is the most significant for lasting peace because it explains how nations must not lie. If everyone knows what they are doing then there won't suspect of each other.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with your comment because if there is no secrets. The countries can talk things out and make decisions together.

      Delete
    2. Sometimes we have to lie in order to keep peace.

      Delete
    3. But if one the nations ends up lying, how will the other nations react or handle the situation? Deep inside, war is not always the answer, so what is?

      Delete
  20. The point that would be most significant to have permanent peace is the third. It states that there shouldn't be trading issues within countries and it would allow them to trade freely. It would prevent war because all nations would have equality, as mentioned in the point. They would all be able to have the best goods by the effect of trading with all nations that provide resources.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree, because if all nations are treated equally then there will be no quarrels nor disagrrements between the nations.

      Delete
  21. The 14th point helped the nations come together and helped ease things out when a conflict was present. So, instead of going to war automatically they can talk it out and comprehend both sides.

  22. The most important of Wilsons point was the 14th, since the grouping Nations would be improve relations between them and avoid wars and disputes like the Great War. Nations would also have support from one another in future problems.

    1. I agree with your idea due to the fact that the 14th point would avoid wars. As well, the nations would be forced to help one another regardless if they wanted to or not.

      Delete
  23. Point 4 is the point that wil defiantly help prevent war because the protection of territory against invasion is what will help mainly because accumulation of armaments above this level would be a violation if they posses and gun.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The point that would be the most adequate for this is the 14 because it is making the world be united

    ReplyDelete
  25. I believe that the most important point Wilson made was the 14th point. As it would create a association through the most powerful nations therefore they would never have conflicts with each other. There would be a mutual understanding and there wouldn't be any major problems.

  26. How do you all think the second point would help?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, free trade and commerce everywhere in the world would mean less tension among territorial disputes.
